About Sandbox (SAND)

Sandbox is a virtual world in which people can socialise, create content, and attend events. Sandbox is powered by the SAND cryptocurrency and includes a marketplace where users can trade virtual items. Players can build, own, and monetise their gaming experiences using the SAND token.

Players can purchase digital real estate called LAND parcels. These parcels of LAND are 100% owned by the player and can be traded, rented, or used as a foundation for their own creations.

SAND is a decentralised ERC-20 utility token, built on the Ethereum blockchain. SAND can be used to purchase items or services through the Sandbox web store and will also power a decentralised file sharing system. SAND players can create NFTs (non-fungible tokens) on the blockchain and sell them in Sandbox's marketplace.

Sandbox Background

The Sandbox launched in 2011 by Pixowl, a mobile game studio company which was founded by Arthur Madrid and Sebastien Borget. Madrid is the CEO of Pixowl and Borget is COO of the company. The pair have also founded other tech companies since meeting and have worked on many projects together.

The due came up with the idea for Sandbox in 2011, but it wasn't until 2012 that they began building the game. The first version of the game was built using Unity 3D and JavaScript on top of their own game engine.

What Makes Sandbox Unique?

The game allows you to be creative in an open-ended environment, with no rules or goals. You can use your creativity to make something like a house or airplane and even sell them in Sandbox's marketplace. Sandbox combines blockchain technology with gaming which has made the platform a niche in the gaming industry.

Selling the creations is unique to Sandbox; they are monetized using Pixowl's own virtual currency called "Boxes". These can be bought with real money or earned by creating things which other users want to buy.
