The first case of Coinbase insider trading has resulted in charges. US prosecutors in Manhattan have charged a former product manager with wire fraud, according to the New York Times.

Product manager Ishan Wahi and his brother, Nikhil Wahi, were taken into custody in Seattle on Thursday. Another defendant, Sameer Ramani, remains at large, and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed civil accusations against him as well.

Lawyers representing Ishan Wahi, 32, released a statement saying that he is "innocent of all crime and intends to defend himself forcefully."

Requests for feedback from Nikhil Wahi's lawyer were not immediately returned. A lawyer for Ramani was not immediately available to Reuters.

He booked a flight to India after being summoned to Coinbase's Seattle headquarters by the company's security director, according to the report.

For the first time in insider trading of digital assets, an ex-NFT marketplace employee has been charged. Law enforcement prevented him from boarding that flight on May 16. The bond for Ishan Wahi was set at $1 million and his passports had to be surrendered.

Despite his alleged attempt to run, prosecutors did not urge that he be arrested. On August 2, he will appear in federal court in Manhattan.

A total of 25 crypto assets were allegedly bought and sold for a profit by Nikhil Wahi (26) and Ramani (33), it states in the related civil accusations, nine of which the SEC said it had classified as securities.

Bitcoin crash continues below $20,000

Celsius Network, which froze assets last month, used customer funds to manipulate the price of its own token, a former employee alleges. Celsius Network has accumulated more than $20 billion by offering 18% interest on cryptocurrency deposits. Alex Mashinsky, the company's founder, said high rates were sustainable.

A lawsuit was filed Thursday in New York state court by KeyFi Inc., created by former Geld Managing Director Jason Stone. It alleges that Celsius struggled to cover dividends and experienced "substantial exchange rate losses" owing to fluctuating coin values.

Stone labels Celsius a Ponzi scheme in his case and alleges he was scammed out of millions in wages. Celsius's spokeswoman didn't immediately comment.

KeyFi attorney Kyle Roche declined to comment.

## Celsius Crypto Crash Rocks Market Already Shaken by Terra

The allegations come amid a Bitcoin credit shortage. Three Arrows Capital was liquidated last month. Voyager Digital Ltd filed for bankruptcy on July 6, and Babel Finance and Vauld have ceased payouts. Since June 12, Celsius Network users can't access funds.

The corporation considered debt restructuring on June 30. More than a million people have saved using Celsius. The appeal was obvious: the interest was 10 to 100 times higher than traditional savings accounts.

Celsius allegedly invested client assets in dangerous trading tactics without sufficient oversight. Celsius began transferring millions to Stone's startup KeyFi in August 2020.

## Crypto Lending? Why Did Investors Lose?

If Bitcoin and Ethereum rose faster than the others, Celsius could have more debt even if the company was profitable.

Celsius tracked users' U.S. dollar deposits, whether they owed Bitcoin or other tokens. Stone said this blunder caused a $100-$200 million hole in the balance sheet. Celsius raised $50 million in 2018 by selling a proprietary token, CEL, and its leaders retained substantial stakes. Stone alleges Celsius utilised $90 million in Bitcoin deposits in 2020 to "inflate" CEL. Maschinsky "enriched" himself and let Celsius borrow against CEL, the lawsuit says.

Stone adds that Celsius borrowed one billion Tether to patch its balance sheet. He claims he broke his connection with Celsius in March 2021.

Former Celsius employees told Bloomberg Businessweek in January that Stone used an anonymous Twitter account named 0xb1.

The Creative Artists Agency agreed to represent this account's digital art in licensing arrangements in October. 0xb1 paid $1 million for its profile image, "demon mutant monkey". Stone claims Celsius authorised him to acquire NFTs as a trading profit advance. He believes Mashinsky transferred some to his wife's wallet after leaving.

Ex-employee Accuses Celsius Network of Fraud

Chapter 11 bankruptcy was filed late Tuesday in federal court in New York after the Toronto-listed broker and lender suffered losses of more than $650 million on a loan to the collapsed crypto investor Three Arrows Capital.

According to the bankruptcy filings, Voyager had pulled down the maximum $75 million permitted in a 30-day period, making Alameda its largest unsecured creditor.

## Bear market continues to take its toll on crypto lending platforms

Voyager's Chapter 11 petition is an attempt to shield the company from lawsuits while it restructures. According to the statement, the corporation has more than 100,000 creditors and between $1bn and $10bn in liabilities.

According to the documents, it owes over $1 million to Google, with its other top unsecured creditors being consumers. On top of that, Voyager said it had $110 million in cash and "owned crypto assets" on hand, as well as $1.3 billion worth of crypto assets on its platform.

Shares of Robinhood, a struggling stock trading platform, surged 14 percent on Monday after reports that crypto millionaire Sam Bankman-Fried's firm FTX is considering a possible acquisition of the company.

It was around 3 p.m. ET when the news of FTX's possible interest in Robinhood came to light. About ten minutes later, trading had resumed. In a statement, Robinhood refused to respond to questions. A message left for FTX seeking comment was not immediately returned.
A takeover of Robinhood has not yet been formally approached by FTX, according to the sources, and the company has yet to make a final decision. In an email to Bloomberg, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) stated, "We are enthused about Robinhood's business possibilities and the possible ways we could collaborate with them. Company documents show that Robinhood co-founders Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt hold more than half of the company's voting power. The third-largest shareholder Emergent, a SBF founded company, was founded with the purpose of this purchase. Because it was "an attractive investment," the company stated in the petition.
