The lawyers for the bankrupt crypto exchange FTX filed a creditor matrix in the [Bankruptcy Court](https://www.deb.uscourts.gov/) of the US in Delaware District on 25 January. It is a detailed document that reveals all FTX creditors, including giants like Netflix, Amazon, Apple, and Coinbase.

The court document suggests that the fall of the [FTX crypto exchange](https://ftx.com/) has affected firms from various domains. Besides crypto firms, the collapse has troubled several banks, hotels, airlines, media agencies, charity organisations, and others. In addition, a few government entities are among its creditors.

## Big names from the list of FTX creditors

The creditor matrix is a 115-page document that provides names and mailing addresses of creditors in alphabetical order.

It illustrates the extent of damage caused by the fall of FTX.

As per the document, the bankruptcy of crypto exchanges left a deep impact on the tech industry. The SBF firm is indebted to the tech giants like Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Twitter, Google, Netflix, LinkedIn, and many others. 

In addition, media outlets, including big players like the New York Times, figure among its creditors.

In the Web3 sphere, the firm owes to companies like Coinbase, Yuga Labs, Galaxy Digital, Bittrex, Circle, Binance, and Chainalysis.

## FTX bankruptcy case

Not long ago, the FTX exchange was one of the largest in the industry. However, in November 2022, the firm experienced a liquidity crunch as its FTT token crashed.

This prompted the firm to file for insolvency, and its founder [SBF was arrested](/news/article/former-ftx-ceo-sbf-arrested) for financial laws violation. 

Earlier, the firm's lawyers mentioned that it owes money to more than a million creditors. The rough estimates suggest that the firm owes more than $100 million to each of its top ten creditors. However, the recent creditor matrix did not provide the estimated amounts of each creditor.

FTX Creditors Include Google, Apple, Netflix

Tony Fadell, an executive at California's center for global innovation and high technology, Silicon Valley, disclosed on Tuesday the launch of a hardware crypto wallet to store cryptocurrency offline.

A hardware wallet securely stores a user's private keys or passcodes in cold storage. This means that the wallet is not connected to the internet. Hot wallets, on the other hand, are always connected to the internet and allow their users to send, store and receive coins and tokens.  

Fadell’s hardware wallet was created in partnership with Ledger, a France-based technology firm that develops secure infrastructure solutions for blockchain applications and cryptocurrencies used by individuals and companies. 

## Why is Tony Fadell launching a hardware wallet? 

Tony Fadell decided to launch a hardware wallet due to the increasing demand for self-custody (non-custodial) wallets from millions of cryptocurrency traders and investors. While custodial wallets, such as holding an account with [Binance](/news/article/binance-staking) or Coinbase, see representatives of such exchanges hold the private keys to your crypto holdings, non-custodial wallets ensure you have access to your private keys or passcodes. 
Demand for hardware wallets is increasing because of the [collapse of FTX](/news/article/ftx-collapse-blockfi-suspend-withdrawals), which led to an industry-wide bloodbath that saw the halting of deposits and withdrawals across several exchanges.

Fadell's hardware wallet means people can hold their digital assets outside the confines of exchange representatives and away from cyber criminals.
Fadell chose Ledger because it is a crypto hardware wallet maker serving clients in more than 200 countries and has sold more than five million wallets across the globe.
While previous products by Ledger, like the Nano S and Nano X, were modelled after USB sticks, the new design, Ledger Stax, is shaped like a credit card. It features an electronic-ink display and a curved spine.
The Ledger Stax will be on sale from early 2023 and will sell for $279. 

Fadell, now in his 50s, spent close to 10 years under Steve Jobs during his time at Apple Inc. It was during that period that he helped create iPhone. 
The crypto wallet market is forecast to grow to [$686.05 million](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/crypto-wallet-market-to-grow-by-usd-686-05-mn-driven-by-peoples-inclination-toward-digital-currency---technavio-301674672.html) by 2026, according to a November 2022 report by Technavio, a global advisory and technology research company.

The report mentioned Ledger as one of the companies that will help the crypto wallet market reach the projected valuation. Other companies that will contribute to the growth of the crypto wallet market include, but are not limited to, Binance Services Holdings Limited, BitPay Inc., Exodus Movement Inc., Gemini Trust Co. LLC, Trezor Company, and ShapeShift AG.

iPod creator Tony Fadell launches crypto wallet

Circle, the company behind the US dollar-pegged stablecoin USDC, has added support for Apple Pay to integrate cryptocurrencies and established payment methods.

The company announced the news in a [blog post](https://www.circle.com/blog/apple-pay-is-now-available-on-circle) published on 15 November that stated merchants who accept USDC can now do so with the help of Apple Pay.

The addition will benefit crypto-native businesses by making it easier to accept payments while not excluding non-crypto customers. Furthermore, Circle stated that "traditional" businesses could use the enhancement to "shift more retail payments to digital currency".

According to reports, [Apple](/news/article/apple-crypto-and-nft-rules) Pay is the second most popular digital wallet in the United States, behind PayPal, with more than 1.8 billion active devices worldwide.

## Issuer of stablecoin Circle adds Apple Pay

Circle and Apple's collaboration will benefit cryptocurrency-native businesses that were initially only concerned with digital assets.

This step will assist them in utilising Apple Pay's payment platform. It will also function as a payment gateway for fiat users interested in experimenting with cryptocurrency payments.

The issuer of [stablecoin](/news/article/what-are-stablecoins) Circle stated that enabling this new feature is a quick and easy process with no hassle.
Merchants who meet the criteria can open a free Circle account and be added to an Apple developer account.

## Circle's similar initiatives

Circle has taken similar initiatives to provide its customers with more payment options.

In June, issuer of stablecoin Circle added support for Polygon [USDC](/news/article/usdc-coin-losses) to its payments and treasury platform, allowing developers to automate flows from fiat into Polygon USDC and swap it for native USDC across various blockchain networks.

At Converge22 in September 2022, the company announced plans to launch [USDC on five new networks](/news/article/circle-usdc) by the end of Q1 2023.

They announced that additional merchant services would enable vendors to accept cryptocurrency payments such as Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC). Other features to reduce checkout friction and improve the overall payment experience are also planned.

The issuer of stablecoin Circle also hinted that there could be future improvements.


Stablecoin Issuer Circle Adds Apple Pay

Tech powerhouse Apple has published crypto and non-fungible token-specific rules in its App Store policies.
The new rules specify what uses of NFTs are permitted and prohibited. It also discusses when a cryptocurrency exchange app can be listed. 

It allows apps to make use of in-app purchases to "sell and sell services" associated with NFTs, such as "listing, minting, and transferring."

Additionally, it restricts NFTs obtained elsewhere to viewing only.

Furthermore, new Apple crypto guidelines prohibit apps from including "external links, buttons, or other calls to action", which may allow users to avoid app-store transaction fees when buying NFTs. It will also forbid apps from using "QR codes, cryptocurrencies, and cryptocurrency wallets" to unlock any content or functionality.

The guidelines also do not allow the use of cryptocurrency for in-app purchases, instead allowing only fiat purchases such as debit or credit cards with a "valid payment method".

The tech company seems to be stepping up its NFT "Apple tax", which comprises in-app NFT purchases in its standard 30% fee on all purchases, by mandating that all [NFT](/news/category/nft-news) transactions take place within apps.

## Apple NFT taxation

Apple has been working on a framework for NFT sales for quite some time. Regarding token taxation, Apple has integrated in-app purchases to apply a standard 30% commission rate on all purchases. 

The tech firm has been criticised for charging a 30% commission on NFT sales made via apps from popular NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea or Magic Eden. Many people have described this taxation as "grotesquely overpriced". The average commission on NFT purchases is around 2.5%.

Because of the high taxes, Magic Eden has reduced their functionality and removed its services from the App Store. 

Users can only browse and view their NFTs with the [Magic Eden](/news/article/magic-eden-expands) Apple app.

## Bottom line

The new Apple crypto guidelines do not alter the company's existing policy on cryptocurrency trading apps provided by exchanges such as [Binance](/news/article/guide-to-binance-uk) and [Coinbase](/news/article/coinbase-singapore-approval), where crypto trading is exempt from the 30% "Apple [tax](/news/article/uk-crypto-tax-regulations)".

New language, however, was added to clarify that crypto trading apps can only be provided in "countries or regions where the application has appropriate licencing and authorisations to provide a cryptocurrency exchange".
